PROJECT EXPERIENCE -

POWER SYSTEM ANALYSIS

As the System Analysis Consultant for a 300MW, 1200MWh Energy Storage System Installation on a 500KV Interconnection, PRE provided detailed analysis of Reactive Power Flow,  Power Flow, Short Circuit, System Power & Energy Loss, and Arc Flash, as well as Relay Settings and detailed System Modelling to the design team, working closely with multiple parties to ensure all important engineering considerations were applied.

PROJECT EXPERIENCE -

RENEWABLE POWER GENERATION

As the lead engineering consultant supporting the interconnection of a 1.5MW Solar installation for the utility, PRE provided detailed engineering design for the substation upgrades required for the interconnection and developed a 3V0 protection scheme standard for the utility to prevent a back-feed of the line in the case of a fault. The scheme developed was adopted by the utility to develop into their standard protection scheme for 3V0 protection.

PROJECT EXPERIENCE - SUBSTATION DESIGN

As the lead engineering consultant, PRE designed and supported the rebuild of a large existing substation, which included three transmission lines, two distribution banks, two transformers, one 44kV transmission line, and two 115kV capacitor banks. As an additional challenge, the existing substation was a straight bus design where it was difficult to take any equipment out of service. As a solution, the new substation was built adjacent to the old substation, converting the sub to a breaker and a half design, and the loads and lines were swung over to the new yard.  Extensive consultation with city officials and substation neighbors was required, which PRE supported.

PROJECT EXPERIENCE - SCADA, AUTOMATION, & COMMUNICATION DESIGN

As the lead communication engineer for a large substation upgrade project installing a new distribution transformer and metal clad switchgear (MCSG), PRE was responsible for the large scale updates to the Communications and SCADA equipment at the substation. In addition, new communication devices and relays were successfully added to the utility's SCADA system.  The scope of work also included the design and settings needed for new automation devices installed for the LTC of the new transformer as well as an automatic throw-over (ATO) for the distribution banks.

PROJECT EXPERIENCE -

PROTECTIVE RELAY SETTINGS

PRE has been the lead engineer for continued support of relay settings review for about 20 generation sites against NERC PRC-19 (voltage controls vs effect on loss of excitation relays), PRC-24 (over/under voltage/frequency relay sensitivity), and PRC-25 (generator system relay loadability) requirements versus facility relay settings. PRE also provided a relay training class for necessary personnel of the client, per PRC-01, describing the purpose of each relay and the types of events that could cause relays to trip.
